Hague Countries accept Apostilles

Hague coutries are the countries that have joined the 1961 Hague Convention. Documetns legalized by an Apostille are accepted in all Hague countries.

Non-Hague countries requre Embassy authentication

Non-Hague coutries are the countries that have not joined the Hague Convention. Non-Hague countries do not accept documetns legalized by an Apostille. Embassy authentication / legalization is required

IMPORTANT NOTICE RELATING TO APOSTILLES

The New York State Department of State has revised the method in which it issues apostilles.

1. Revised Seal - The New York State Department of State Seal will be used for the apostille and authentications. The Great Seal of the State of New York will no longer be used.

2. Revised Method for Affixing Seal - Apostilles and authentications will be produced with a blue laser printed facsimile of the New York State Department of State Seal.

Copy Certification by Document Custodian

New York State Notaries cannot make notarized copies! If you need to notarize a copy of your original document (ID, passport, letter, affidavit, application, etc.) you will need a Copy Certification by Document Custodian form.

Copies of Birth Certificates, Marriage Records, Death Certificates, and Divorce Records cannot be notarized. A certified copy must be obtained from the Vital Records Office or Court where the original document was filed.

New York State Notarization Requirements:

Complete the Affidavit by Document Custodian, and have your signature properly notarized by a duly qualified New York State Notary Public:

The Notary Public must indicate the venue

The notarization must contain an acknowledgment basically of the following form:

"On _____________________ 200__ before me came _____________________, to me known to be the individual described in and who executed the foregoing instrument and acknowledged that he/she executed the same"

or jurat:

"Sworn to and subscribed before me this ____ day of ______________ 200___. "

The notarization must be on the signature page of the document. If the notarization is on a separate page - the acknowledgment or jurat must contain the name of the person who signed the document and the description of the document.

All signatures must be original.
